E350 Ford frame from a dually ambulance

Hello
Am thinking of a project based on a cut out cab from an ambulance and have a basic question...

Once the cab and the ambulance box are removed can one install a regular EB van body on the frame?

Are all the E350 frames the same?

Thanks
Andrew

Check the wheelbase. There are several different wheelbases available on cutaways. If the wheelbase is the same, look for an extension on the rear of the frame.

If it is an E350, maybe. Those come in 3 wheelbases and the short one is 138" just like the vans.

E450s only some in 158" and 176" (and often is stretched longer up to 223").

I have seen one E350 wagon body dropped onto an E450 frame. He cut the front doors mid-way and spliced in to the cutaway cab. It looks factory when he was done, kind of like an extended cab pickup. They even opened. He obviously was good at body work though.

I've though about doing the same (those chassis are cheap!), but my approach would simpler. I would cut the donor body at the B-piller, and fill the space with a cab extension.

And yes, the frames are identical except for wheelbase, and the lack of bumper-mount end-plates on the cutaway.

Also, cutaways have a rear tank, but you can add a rear fuel door to a van body (Ford sells a kit for wheelchair vans) and you can even add a mid-ship tank and have 2.

Re: E350 Ford frame from a dually ambulance

I'm driving a e350 cab and chassis now.
It is the short 138 inch wheelbase.
I think that you could but a van body on it.
I plan to put a small mini-mod box on the back.

I like how Chris (Ujoint) did his using a different camper with the Chassis Cab. Also look at these to convert to a truck type cab. the make them in lots of lengths too.
