Re: Ford Transit details

Whoa! The page of the Transit on Sportsmobile site has been updated just a few days ago. It now includes the pdf sheets for basic info. All is basically there except a few pricing info that are listed as 'TBD'. Also, the MSRP pricing for the Transit has been left blank so I guess they didn't know at the time of making the pdf files. But it's so nice seeing the page updated. I can't wait to see the actual Transit floor plans and pictures when they get them ready!!

Re: Ford Transit details

Just pulled this from the Quigley Transit update page. The red text doesn't sound too optimistic for an early delivery.

2014 Ford Transit

Quigley Motor Company is planning to offer our 4x4 system on the new Transit full size line which is geared to replace the E-Series in 2014. Please monitor this News section in the up coming months as we will keep you informed when we learn more details. We thank you for your interests in the new Ford Transit model line.

We are looking at the entire model line-up and all 3 powertrain options. However this cannot be confirmed until our final design and testing are completed, just as we cannot offer a price at this time.

10/23/14 - Front drive shaft design and proto-typing are finished. Looking to install more of our proto-type components starting Monday.

10/13/14 - We have started new designs on the steering geometry for several reasons. This will put us back several months. We are currently waiting for pricing and availability of certain components.

10/02/14 - Removed the mock up casting and installed the new machined casting. Next phase involve the axle and front hubs.

9/30/14 - Sample casting passed analysis and are machined.

9/23/14 - New adapter castings arrived. Sent back to machine shop. Should have them analyzed and machined by the end of the week.

9/12/14 - The mock-up adapter housing is completed. We can start moving forward on the mid-section designs which include fitting the transfer case and related components.

9/11/14 - Still waiting on some updates for component availability. pricing and lead times.

9/10/14 - After the re-design the suspension and steering are working without issues.

The US Transit could easily have the 2015 F-150's IFS 4x4 system since they are both built in the same plant. You'd think Ford would have pre-planned on that. Instead, we'll have to wait at least a year for Quigley or QuadVan to come up with their conversion that may or may not work.
I've only seen reference to "AWD" Transits for European market, so it's made me wonder if they are FWD-based vans with transverse engines (like many AWD crossovers here in USA), or if they are based on RWD models with addition of traditional transfer case. If AWD is mostly to improve traction on paved roads, it seems to me that FWD-based would be the better choice.

If someone knows how the AWD Transits are designed (new ones or previous models), please share information.

I past and had to turn around for my first low roof Transit widow van. Interesting enough cargo inside. There was a salesman staking mine almost right away so I never stopped only gave it the slow drive by. The Promaster has really grown on me, I don't think I could ever get used to the low roof Transit.

Re: Ford Transit details

Some interesting news regarding the Quigley Transit 4x4 which appears to be on the way to market soon!

Pickup Trucks site has done a quick review of the conversion where it was tested at Moab in Utah, so the conversion must be pretty durable. However note that the Transit used is a short wheelbase short roof. No info is given on how well it does on the longer wheelbase and higher roof although I'm sure there will be restriction on packaging as far as length and height. The article says the front end is based on F-150 4x4 and pictures show a true manual transfer case with 4H and 4L! The best thing is that conversion price stays around the same price as the conversion for Econoline.

Re: Ford Transit details

FWIW, I got an email from Quigley today about the Transit 4x4 production. They don't have much info on their website yet, but sounds like they are building some. They probably have orders from UPS or FedEx to start with.

Production has started on all lines excpt fo the single rear wheel high roof 15 passenger diesel so ,”COME ON DOWN”.
