Re: gas mileage

We have a Chevrolet Express extended van with a 350 (5.7L) and it is 2WD. Our average fuel economy for the 70,000 miles I tracked it was 16.0 mpg. We live east of the Mississippi but have taken several trips in the west and have not seen a problem with grades.

Re: gas mileage

2008, E350, 12 passenger, 5.4L, over the last 12,000 miles:

12.5 overall, combined.
16, interstate @ 60-65
14 interstate @ 70-75
11.5 stop and go daily driving

13 pulling a pop up trailer @ 60, in the mountains of southern B.C. approximately 10,500 #

8-10% grades at 60, 2nd gear, 4000 RPM, towing the pop up.

The 5.4 makes plenty of power between 2500 & 4500 RPM.

Re: gas mileage

I just got a new 2009 E250 with a 5.4. It got over 15 mpg from LA to to Kennewick. One slower stretch I got 16 mpg. However it was empty with a standard top. It will be interesting to see what happens to the mileage after adding 2500 lb of payload and a 24" high bubble top....

I have been doing some reading and there may have been some fuel economy changes over the years with the 5.4, fine tuning of transmission, air conditioning, alternator, cruise control, etc.

As far as handling steep hills, it will do close to 55 in 2nd gear. Haven't checked the gas mileage under those conditions.

Oh and Silver350 is probably quoting Imperial gallons or something weird

Actually, that is in U.S. Gallons. In my mind, since Canada went Metric, the imperial gallon no longer exists.

I'm pretty sure that a less aggressive tire would yield another MPG.

Re: gas mileage

Driving cross country, including less than 5% city and 45 minutes idling at the US border (across CA from Detroit to Niagra), 3474 miles, 18.27 mpg 190.12 gallons $787.02.

Are you sure you crossed from Detroit to Niagara? No wonder you got such great milage, it's like your wheels never touched the ground in that last stretch. ; )

Re: gas mileage

across CA .................. with CA being our northern neighbors. Of course, I now realize I posted that in the wrong thread.
