Has anyone found the source of the "Econoline Mouse"?

Has anyone found the source of the "Econoline Mouse"?

Every Ford van I've been in, cargo or passenger, has a little squeak that seems to come from somewhere near the rear doors. It is like a mouse squeaking and happens only over broken asphalt at moderate speed.

My van didn't do it when brand new, but it started after 3000 miles or so. I've looked everywhere, but can't find the source. It's baffling and annoying: it isn't loud and probably wouldn't bother me except for the fact that I can't locate it.

I must be doing something wrong, because I haven't heard anything like that in my van. Could it be the diesel engine noise drowns it out?

On the doors the are some wedge shaped sliders (on the door, bottom... on the sill, top). I periodically lube them (lithium grease works well) to prevent that sound. Also good to lube the latches too much pretty sure the squeak is from the sliding wedges.

Thanks! I'll try that and report back.

On my van, looking from behind, at the top right corner of the right rear door, it rubs on the corner of the body, (door jam) right at the corner. No pic, but lots of scuffed off paint.

Re: Has anyone found the source of the "Econoline Mouse"?

I went to fill up a few months ago and one dropped out behind the rear wheel, looked really confused at the landscape of gas station and disappeared. Hopefully he told his little buddies to stay away, that is if he made it back with me.

A cat or a mouse? Either will be confused if they came from Ca.

Re: Has anyone found the source of the "Econoline Mouse"?

I chased a squeak once upon a time, and it wound up being the rear AC where it mounted to the body. Drove me nuts!
