How to remove air vent blades (Ford)
Anyone have an idea how to remove the air vent blades in the front dash?
I would like to take them out to clean them and vacuum out the dust that has been building up inside the ductwork. Anyone with a body service manual that explains how they are attached? I don't want to just pry them if there is a hidden screw or clip somewhere.

According to my service manual, the vents are part of the dash and come out with the dash. Obviously, they are removable as they are a movable part. I've cleaned mine by putting the fan on high and selecting vent. Then I use an air compressor to blow air into the vent. It really cleans out most of the dust. The compressor blows the dust loose and the fan puts it back in your face afore it goes very far into the vent ducting. This is best done before you clean the rest of the interior.... 
If you come up with a way to pop out the louvers without damage, let us know.

I will try that next time BEFORE I clean the interior.
If you look closely there are two tabs on each side of the assembly. Depressing them doesn't seem to do anything though.

Good idea. Do you close all but one vent so there's more air pressure for the one vent that you are cleaning at a given time?

Haven't done that Herb, but not a bad idea. Moab last week put a bunch of dust in there so I'll give it a try.

If Scatter thinks HIS vents are full of dust, he should see the vents of the van that was BEHIND him!!!!

the vents come out... from the back side of the large panel.

I haven't tried this but, in addition to closing all but one vent at a time, you might get a large rag and put a small hole in the middle of it and then get it thoroughly wet. Put that over the vent to be cleaned and blow air through the hole. The wet rag MIGHT catch most of the dust.

Gently pry up at the bottom of the air vent with a flat blade screwdriver.
Pops right out.
NOTE: You don't have to remove the front of the dash to do this. It just happened to be on my workbench at the moment.
