Installing new tow mirrors on a 2002 e350

I recently purchased a set of OEM tow mirrors for my 2002 e350 7.3 from ebay. They were sold as a compatable part for 02 and up model years. They did state that I would need to drill one hole to accomodate the fourth pin. I have stared at this mirror and the point which it is to attach to and cant seem to see how this will work... Anybody put new mirrors on their earlier year ford? ie 02?? I have attached a photo of the exact mirrors I bought.
Thanks,
Brian

We sawed one pin off and dremel smoothed it out.. AND we drilled a hole for another Pin.

I got the motorized version and found the actual factory mirror switch panel the goes with it and made it work with my rehabbed 96' Sporto..
The 96 actually had the factory wiring for it already and I used it. It took a while for us to figure out the pin outs on the factory mirror control/lock/unlock switch panel but in the end we got it to all work and went further hooking it up to the non factory alarm remote..

It looks 100% better compared to the RV Tow mirrors with the leg bolted to the side of the door also!

Lol, I remember on the second day when I bought my Sporto a few years back, on the way back from Nevada City, we stopped by Mono Lake and I proceeded to get bushwacked by the bushes and trees on the trails around the Lake and pretty much destoryed the old RV Tow mirrors..

I put them on my 2000. I used a conical drill bit ant added 2 holes/door, and enlarged the 2 existing holes that could be re-used.

So here is what im up against. I appreciate the help and replies. These are a shot of the new and old mirrors and the door where the mirror mounts. I want to make sure that this looks like the same door others have mounted their new mirrors on.
Thanks again.

My buddy(the Alter McGyver) replied and here it is:
u can c from the pic 3 points on the mirror line up . cut off the one that dosent match. remove the studs from the new mirror and use longer m6x1.0 bolts.use a step or unibit to open up the outer holes. use extra large fender washers over existing inner holes. use tape over inner side to stop air flow. be careful when threading the new bolts into the mirror it is cheap metal and may strip. when fitting is perfect use blue locktite .

The second pin that obviouly is the odd ball is the one you want to cut.. The Studs are the studs screwed in the pin..

Re: Installing new tow mirrors on a 2002 e350

Trimming a pin is not necessary. I just drilled 2 new holes, and enlarged the existing 2 that I could use, and it bolted right up.

We had structural blockage so we had to trim mine..2nd Pin from the Top..
I guess it depends on which year..

Re: Installing new tow mirrors on a 2002 e350

Hello Ladies & Gents, My First Post, Howdy,

I am about to install a new set of 2009 E550 Tow Mirrors on my
2000 E350 Extended Van Explorer Conversion Interior 7.3L Mobile Living Room.

My van is all powered so the switch is there, I may need to change the plug.

I know there is some drilling involved.

The 2009 E550 Mirror Numbers are,

LEFT - 7C2417683CA5YGY ( 1446583 )

RIGHT -7C2417682CA5YGY ( 1446582 )

I PAID 120.00 FOR THE PAIR, so I thought it was fair.

I have a great set of the taper drill bits from Irwin, so I can drill
the steel easily.

One Gent on the Van DieselStop Site told me to use the Rubber Foam Gasket that
is on the mirror as a Template. Sounds good to me.

After I drill the holes I will paint the hole edges with enamel touch-up paint
from Ford. Mine is the Emerald Green color. This may help stop rust.

Some people said they cut-off one of the studs.

I will leave all the studs on the mirror and drill away.

Any Help with ideas and pep talk is welcome.

I always do my homework before I tackle a job like this.

Best,
Russ

Re: Installing new tow mirrors on a 2002 e350

I trimed the 2nd pin from the top as well as my 2001 had a reinforcement in the way. I also enlarged the remaining holes and removed the stud and replaced them with bolts.

Re: Installing new tow mirrors on a 2002 e350

Sorry, if I understood correctly...

Ie if I have a 1997 E350, I can use a mirror on E after 2003, if I add a 1 hole to install?..

All other parameters are the same, no problem?
