Len
Door opening is 15 1/2 inches.
I can not take credit for the layout. It is the work of previous owner. This is my 5th class B and my favorite by far. I have a neat shower made that you take out the plug for the table and it sit in the opening and drains in the holding tank and I use an outside water heater and recirculate the water in the holding tank till it gets up to temp for a nice hot 20 min. shower for 2 people. I will be doing a post on it when the weather breaks and I can get it all set up for pics.
I love your van it looks like home. I can tell you put a lot of thought into it. I am guessing It went thru several changes. You can tell the workmanship is Top Notch.
I am debating doing a home build in a ford that I have with a shorter top so I can get in parking structures and drive thrus . My van is 9ft 3in tall that is a whole lot of work just to cut out 3in.

Bernie. I like your layout. Can you still use the bathroom when couch is made into a bed?

Re: Let's see your Chevy Express!

Yes the bathroom is easily accessible when the bed is set up. We did make a little mod though. Originally you would use the back cushion to complete the bed width wise. This would give you a bed of about 33". That made the aisle a little narrow and restricted the opening of the bathroom door. We had SMB make a 9" cushion insert which permanently sits where you would put the back cushion when making the bed. So now we have a permanent lower cushion measuring 27" which is just fine for sleeping. You can also walk down the aisle easily and have much better access to the bathroom. It also helps support the original back cushion which had a tendency to slide around and slip down in the original SMB design. So win-win all around.
