Re: No Brake Lights

Thanks Brian. I had already found and bookmarked that post. Helpful for sure.

Re: No Brake Lights

Well, the multifunction switch was not the problem, but it does not appear that I have continuity from the brake switch at the pedal to the multifunction switch. I can't seem to find a schematic specific to my vehicle, but from all the others I can find for Ford trucks and other year vans it seems that the LG wire should be the one from the brake pedal switch. Regardless, I checked for continuity on all of the wires at the multifunction switch and none of them had continuity to the brake pedal switch.

There are no wire colors at the mf switch that match the color of the output wire of the brake switch at the pedal which tells me it goes somewhere else first. Anyone know where? I'm going to try to trace it tomorrow, but the wires sure disappear quickly after leaving the brake pedal switch and head up under the dash.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram / schematic for the multifunction switch on a 2005 E350 diesel or an overall schematic that shows where the wiring goes between the switch at the brake pedal and the mf switch?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Phil

Re: No Brake Lights

12V from F2.11 in the CJB (Central Junction Box under dash to left of steering column) Light Green/Red to the brake pedal switch, Connector C278, from there, Dark Green wire to F2.39 in the CJB then Light Green to C237 on Firewall to C219 on firewall and into M/F switch.

Re: No Brake Lights

Mike, that information is most useful. I didn't realize there was a fuse before and after the brake switch at the pedal. I will check F2.39 tomorrow.

Also got your PM. I'll respond there too.

Thanks,
Phil

Re: No Brake Lights

Mike, Does the wire stay LG from F2.39 the rest of the way to the MF Switch or does it change color again along the way?

Thanks,
Phil

Re: No Brake Lights

Thanks to Mike, I discovered that the second Fuse (F2.39) was blown, replaced and blew again. Started looking for the short. Long story short, I traced it to the third brake light on the PH top. all corroded inside and was the culprit. Clipped the wires for now and ordered a new one, so at least I have the van brake lights working.

What a pain this has been, but I learned a lot about the wiring. That's always a positive thing.

One thing to note that may help others. The third brake light wiring branches away before going to the MF Switch and after fuse F2.39.

This chapter is closed out.

Re: No Brake Lights

Brake lights work but my penthouse brake light does not. Changed the bulbs and found a frayed wire between the brake light and wires coming from the penthouse. Replaced those.

On my cjb F2.39 is not used. There's no fuse and its a hollow slot.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You need some brake light fluid. Give NAPA or AutoZone a call and see if they have any in stock.
