Paint Oxidation???

O.K. Who is the Paint & Body expert? My van is a dark green & the paint is appearing cloudy, I believe it is oxidation. Is this a matter of buffing it out & what does it cost to do this? I will not attempt to do this myself.
Thanks Woot.............

Re: Paint Oxidation???

Woot, I worked for 6 years at a body shop, so I do have some experience in this subject. First, If it's just starting to get cloudy I would recomened having a good shop buff it out. Then apply a high quality wax at least once a year. This will keep your paint nice for a long time. However, If you wait and let the oxidation get real bad no amount of buffing will get it out and then your looking at a re-spray. A few hundred dollars spent now, followed by some continued maintinence will save you thousands in the long run.

Re: Paint Oxidation???

I had looked at buffing it all out then applying RE-jex poly coating...I read good reviews on it...

Re: Paint Oxidation???

Thanks this is great information! I'll have to get it done shortly. It doesn't look all that bad, just starting to Haze & have a cloudy look to it. I did notice that the hood is loosing it's clear coat in the spots where the rocks has dinged it. I guess I'll have the hood repainted while I'm at it.
Thanks Woot.........
