The old forum had a "no diesel vs. gas thread" policy. That could apply equally to the RB vs. EB issue, though without quite the passions. I just tried a search and came up with a zillion threads, none of which answered the search so don't feel bad about not finding the magical search phrase. (It also appears the search engine doesn't recognize standards like quote marks to require an entire phrase for a hit. Not good.) I wouldn't worry too much about the choice. If you want/need more space go EB. If you want cool, go RB.

When I first started to look at the Sportsmobile, I test drove the extended wheelbase Chevy. I should have bought it since it was local, drove like a dream, and had literally everything going for it, but I wanted one that would fit in my garage, and it wouldn't fit in mine. Then after a very long search I gave up on the garage aspect and bought a really nice low mileage 2008 E-350 RB 6.0l diesel. I liked it since it had everything that I wanted on it...electric penthouse top (although we can do without this bed at our age), Danhard A/C, Powertech generator, 2000 inverter, coach battery, fridge, microwave, etc. It did not have the propane fixtures or the sink, but it did have a water tank with outside shower. This pretty much fit what we needed for travel and camping that does not include off road. I have since cut out the center of the previously mentioned coach platform from front to rear for a walk through dinette/bed set-up. Even though the van came with a third seat and there is only the wife and I, the regular body will work well for us, but I still might trade for one that I can garage on down the road.

I have a RB and am plenty happy with it in terms of space and cargo area (RB51 setup w/ 2 adults and 2 kids). I think an important point in the length aspect is whether or not your in cities much. It's hard enough finding a place to park with aluminess racks, a box, and bikes off the back. Total length on my rig is ~20 feet.

The RB has only 2 advantages that I can think of: city parking and Departure Angle.

EB. I've seen guys put rollers on the rear bumper to help departure issues.

I have an RB and would like the extra space. But, it was not a deal breaker for us when we bought used. All else being equal, I would like to have the EB...

RB with a hitch cargo carrier... best of both worlds. I actually just got one so I wouldn't have to load oily/dirty stuff into the van and I really like it. I found the pro model cargo carrier locally for 80$.

I can't sleep at night. Now I wish I had an EB so I could put rollers on my $3000 aluminess bumper.
