Rear ended someone...

Dang it.. first accident in 20 years super duper bummed out.
I had the week off and took my girl up to Big Bear for her birthday then camping in Johnson valley had a great time too. Dropped her off and was getting groceries to continue on by myself for a few days more camping.

So I just crossed through a green Light in a intersection and a range rover just slammed on his brakes For whatever reason? I did too.. slowed down considerably but still gave him a good smack.. totally my fault, I have a CDL license and should of been more careful. I’m hoping I don’t get sued..

Only damage on my rig is my Camburg bumper squished up against my grill.. After the police reports and info exchanges . I was on my way again. I hooked my tow strap to a post and my bumper and reversed my rig and straightened the bumper out a bit. I think I damaged the frame horn worse though... crap..

Any ideas on fixing this ? The bumper itself doesn’t look too bent mainly the tubes bent towards the attachment area. I image welding on a new bumper attachment Point? And trying to tweak everything back the best possible. If I can’t have everything lookin nice again and not too Wonkie looking I may just put a OEM bumper on for a while.

Here is after I pulled the bumper back a bit from my grill with a tow strap. Still pretty Wonkie though . I might try to straighten it out a bit more with our forklift or Porta power at work.

Maybe cut it off and re weld it back on straight again?

Hard to say for sure, but doesn’t look like the actual frame horn is bent, just the bumper mounting plate on the end. I’d be inclined to simply cut it off and weld on a new one (custom made as I’m sure you can’t buy them). Any fab shop should be able to do that for you if you don’t have tools. Just make sure they use decent thickness plate.

Rear ended someone...

Don’t take this the wrong way.....and to each his own, but that thing would be useless in anything other than a fender bender with a Range Rover’s tail gate.
I’m no engineer, but the purpose of a bumper is to at least take a bit of a hit, before doing damage to your vehicle. That pre-runner design with no real “bumper” has it’s place, but they give you very little front end protection, this one also has the added benefit of doing more damage to your vehicle with the tubes if you were to really smack into something.
I say take this as learning experience and be glad you weren’t in a more serious accident and look into getting a true bumper, designed and engineered to provide protection to the front end of your rig.....and you!

....but you might have to change your user name[emoji30]

Ya know I actually agree with all those points! If I had a regular bumper both of our vehicles would of sustained much less damage I imagine.. this bumper was already on the rig when I bought the van, everyone seems to think it looks cool though.. Lots of thumbs ups from younger dudes ..Lol

Anyways I’m now contemplating putting a Black OEM bumper back on and sinking some small LEDs in it like Ujoint does there’s. I think that would look pretty cool. Definitely don’t see a Aluminess bumper In my my budget right now. I’ll probably wait till the holidays are over to start working on this project.

Ps . Also I’ve got an amazing New User name I thought of ! I’ve been having a hard time getting it changed on here though.. ?

I would redo a prerunner bumper more modern design by your local fab shop with skid plate and mount for led lights.I wouldn’t have that upper part of it anymore only good for hangin a wetsuit and bustin rear hatches haha.second thing I would rhino line that front grill,I did it for my van and here’s a few pics.finishing touch would be two red bullet lights recessed in grill so person in front of you blocking the fast lane thinks your the devil and moves over...

Here’s modern look I like and not extra weight through woopies.if you do oem front you can fit a 30” led bar light in the bumper space.my buddy that owns Ss built did the tundra bumper and they always do sharp approach angles on skid plates
