At least now I have a temporary fix to close off the window opening until I can complete this project.

Is the paint off down to bare metal? If not, I wouldn’t worry about it as the butyl will likely cover it. If you do need/want to paint it regardless, you can get matching Dupli-Color paint at any auto store. Just be sure to mask till it off to avoid overspray on the rest of the van.

Use a rag and some acetone to clean all the residual butyl off, too, before you paint.

Thanks BrianW.
Well the acetone was not doing anything but oddly My wife found that canola oil and baking soda removed all the old stubborn butyl in no time at all. Amazing actually. I sanded it and will prime and paint in the next few days hopefully.
Question about order of install.
Should I first put the butyl on the frame and install against the door, then do the outer butyl and window? Seems better order to ensure alignment. Or are there reasons to do it the other way?
