Shocks?

I just installed e350 coils in my e150 and now would like some nicer shocks, will f150 shocks work? Looking at some bilstein 5100's from 4wheelparts.

Re: Shocks?

Your van probably sits higher now with the 350 springs and will ride a bit stiffer. I would think you'd be better off with shocks meant for the 350. Especially in the length department. If nothing else, measure the compressed and extended length needed. You don't want the shock to be the limiting factor in suspension travel. A couple of times of that happening and you'll be looking at purchasing another new set of shocks.

Re: Shocks?

I might depend on the springs you had and the ones you installed.

From an 04 data book:

E150 springs range from 3100# to 3600# and are 11.6" tall

E350 springs range from 3100# to 4600# and are 12.0" tall

Depends on options, RB/EB, engine, etc.

So, it is possible you put in a softer spring. You need to measure the springs wire diameter to know what spring you used. Varies from .695" to .783" in ~20 steps.

The E350 shocks have a larger piston (1.38" vs. 1.19") for more damping, but the length should be similar and the mountings the same.

Geese Mike! How do you know all this stuff? I'm going to have to think of technical question that will really stump you. But I don't know what that would be. You probably even know how ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny.

I do. It doesn't.

Re: Shocks?

Picked up some 2wd F150 3" rancho shocks. Compressed 12" extended was like 15", should work.

Re: Shocks?

Something doesn't sound right there mykdee, I've never seen a full size shock with only 3" of travel. You sure that the compressed length is 12" and fully extended is 15"? That means that your suspension can only travel 3". 1-1/2" up and 1-1/2" down. Can't imagine that working. Better remeasure and post here again.
