Spare on Roof - EB PH

Anyone have their spare forward on the roof in front of the PH? Anyone think about putting a rack on that part of the roof? A rack would hang over the windshield somewhat to fit a 35" tire laid flat.

Difficult to get up there. I used to run this:

Although I could climb in the bed to get the tire up there.

You must still be a Youngster. I'm trying to find way to get everthing lower and lighter! A 35 would weigh at least 100lbs no matter what and wrestling that much from that high would make me not want to change the flat.

I had mine up there on a expo rack.....I am young and strong but I almost left the tire on the side of the road instead of putting it back up there. It is a tricky situation getting it up and down without damage as well. GL

What do you guys think of a rack in front of the PH? Does anyone have a measurement from the end of the penthouse to the windshield (on center)?

I might be able to think of an easy way to get the tire off the roof.

I currently have my 2wd 225/75 R16 Chevy wheel up on a Rhino Rack and I use a ladder to get up there but I don't know if you guys with mega 4x4 tire+wheel might have a job getting it up n down...

Not that much. I was actually thinking of that too. I would :guestimate" that its about 12-15" only.

Also think about ride quality -- what kind of swaying you might get having all that weight way up there. My van sways bad enough as it is!
