Tire question

Would 255/85/R16 Toyo Open Country tires fit on a stock 2005 E250 extended body without too much rubbing? Thanks in advance.

Tire question

That's a 33" tire. It will fit a stock width rim and clear the rear fender but will rub in the back edge of the front fender. A 235/85 or 265/75 will work as they are 31.75" & 31.5" tall, respectively.

Re: Tire question

Your rim backspacing will affect rubbing too.

Re: Tire question

Thanks for the answers. Does the rubbing come from the tire width or the height? The rims would be the standard ones from Ford until new rims are bought.

Re: Tire question

Several things affect rubbing:

- Tire Height

- Tire Width

- Wheel width

- Wheel offset

- Vehicle ride height

If it doesn't rub with stock wheels, it may rub when you go with aftermarket wheels - most of them are wider and and more offset (less backspacing).

My 33" tires rub a little at full lock, even with the 4" lift. It would be a lot worse if I was running aftermarket wheels instead of F-350 wheels.

Re: Tire question

And Accessories:

- Step Rails

- Fender Flares

- Mud Flaps

Your suspension affects it as well, Quigley being not the same as SMB, not the same as stock, etc.

It will come from diameter for sure if the van is stock. If you are good at bodywork or have a 2007 or older van, fiberglass fenders are available to give you more room.

Re: Tire question

When I put 255/80 17's on my van, because they are narrower, they actually have more clearance at the rear of the front wheel well. It is the width more than the height that causes rubbing.

My rubbing is caused by less backspacing on the new rims. I should be able to run 35s, and these are 34s but they rub- it's because the MotoMetal rims have about 1" less backspacing and the arc the tires travel through is increased... of course it doesn't help that they're wide, but the old set was the same width.

But I agree, the height is the last factor in causing rub.

Tire question

The OP has a stock van. Assuming stock springs, the diameter will be the issue if it is much larger than 31.65"
