Water Leak Side Glass

I have leaking from the top of the side glass (cargo area) on the drivers side. 1996 F350 club wagon xlt. I have taken all the interior panels out and tightened all the bolts holding the glass in place. Most of them were very loose. This worked on the drivers side, but still getting a lot of water from the top of the driver side glass.
Has anyone else had this problem or have a fix?
Is there a reason why using some black sealant in the groove around the outside of the window wouldnt work or be a bad idea?

You might want to think about removing the glass and resealing it.

ok, any links or tips on resealing them? It woudnt hurt to do all of them. I am ready to start building out the van, but not until I get the leaks fixed

Measure the perimeter of the glass and get yourself equal amounts of butyl tape to reseal.
Once the glass is off, clean very throughly both surfaces, reinstall the glass and done.
5/16th round butyl tape is what I recommend.

all the rear windows of these vans are really easy to get in and out. getting the butyl tape off is another story.

basically remove snap in trim piece's around windows and remove the nuts that hold window and frame in place. I usually used a large screwdriver and found a place to start prying window frame away from door/body. leave one tool where I started and work my way around till its free. be careful or have another set of hands ready to grab window so it doenst hit the ground once its free from the goo. definitely easier in the cold vs when its warm out and a lot less messy. stuff stings like gum when its hot out and that stuff makes a mess if you get it on stuff.

I didn't reseal with butyl tape though. I had half a tube of silicone bathroom sealer that was getting old that I used instead. going on 4 years and no leaks yet.

sorry to leave part of the installation process out...
be sure to replace the butly tape back in the same place that the old stuff was removed from.
And YES, butly tape can be very messy to clean up but it will stick to it's self there for making removal slightly easy to get the pieces off...
I tend to wipe everything down with prepsol then wax all the areas that usually are hard/impossible to get to when there is a window in place.

Question: There's a plastic spacer in between the window and body. When you remove the window is being removed from the spacer or does the spacer stay with the window?? This is on the fixed windows of course.
