Welcome, and nice bike karl. I love any celeste Bianchi!
I keep my nice bike or bikes inside also. The rear of a van is a collect all for road grime.
Enjoy the Sportsmobile forum and lets see that bike when you get it.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Old school?

Don't know if this is Interesting. My 1st "mountain bike" was a 1952 Schwinn from Goodwill that I repainted and built up (w/Phil Wood disk brakes and eccentric bottom bracket) into a 15-speed triple in 1979.

First "road" bike was a Raleigh DL1 converted to a SA 5-speed about 1974. I upgraded to a Gios Torino, full Zeus 2000 drilled and milled titanium components in about 1976.

I still have all these bikes. As well as two Dahon 21-speed folders.

These are two of my current users. The Moonlander has the Rohloff/Gates belt drivetrain. The Pedersen is simply a Rohloff setup. Hopefully the images appear.

Welcome boswell. A couple of long time lurkers here!
Lets see that Zeus 2000 group Gios bike.
I would give my left pedal to have a bike with drilled Zeus on it.

My wife reminds the perfect rack is the only subject.

First post in years. The ebike thread of years ago on this list got this old guy going new directions and I forgot to keep with y'all.

About ten ebikes later, this is what a 74 year old woman uses to single track in the mountains.

And of course my sportsmobile is my bike cave.

And when the going gets weird:

I've been into bikes since I was about 18. I'm 52 now so it's been a long time now. Right now I own:

Surly Pugsley - my commute bike. I'm lucky to live on one end of a preserve and work on the other so it's trails for my commute route.

Tumbleweed Prospector - my Rohloff equipped offroad touring bike.

Bianchi Milano - my "cafe racer" .

Rivendell All Rounder - my custom do everything road/trail bike.

Bromptons - I have one with M bars and one with S bars.

Trek 820 - I just picked this up. A 1995 bike that was virtually unridden. It will be my fendered winter commuter.

Think that's it for now. I've owned a bunch of other bikes in the past but this is the current "quiver" .

Like so many things in my younger life there are no pics because it was before the pervasiveness of digital photography.

Case in point, about 10 or 15 years ago in the glorious early days of CL a friend of mine found a bunch of vintage bikes for sale from an estate or something. Amongst them were two really rare Italian roadracing bikes from the 70s' or 80's. We did not recognize the names but were blown away by how cool and unusual they were. Problem was all of these bikes were way too small for us. We offered the seller a hundred bucks for both of them and they jumped at it.

We researched a bit and my friend decided to mount his on the wall as 'art' while I decided to list mine on Ebay. Apparently some folks knew they were worth something and my auction won me about $1k for my $50 investment. They may've been worth a lot more but I was satisfied.

My buddy decided to list his after he saw my return on investment. His auction ended for about $1k too.

I'd give anything for some pics or even names of the bikes.

Old bmx stuff is worth a mint anymore. Just the bmx action magazines my mom bought me subscriptions for in the 80’s sold super fast on eBay. They were cut up, scribbled on, and just overall beat. She paid 10 bucks a year for 5 years. From 83 to 88. We sold them as a lot and after ebays fees I still put $499.00 in my pocket. I was floored.

Shortly after I listed al my old stuff other than my number plates. Parted my sting and ended up with about 2500 iirc. Just a set of beat down jmc forks went for over 200. I didn’t really want to sell all of it, but I figured I wasn’t and couldn’t use it anymore so wtf right? If you have old vintage 80’s bmx stuff laying around, you’re sitting on a possible gold mine

Somewhere I still have my Yamaha Moto-bike forks & frame laying around.
They got separated as we built a mono shock Sting Ray/bmx thrasher.
A Schwinn bottom bracket welded behind the first bottom bracket. A swingarm fabbed up ala early YZ monoshock suspension, held up with a CR125 shock. Yamaha Moto-bike forks up front.
No pics of course but maybe even the monoshock frame is still around...

I had a mondo StingRay cross up photo blown up to poster size from my teen days. I recently tried to unroll it but it was molded together and in the trash it went.
History by the wayside!

Fun days... Keep the stories coming!

I just electrified my townie and man is that fun. I have 4500 miles on my MB1. Looking for a pugsly now to make another ebike. I’ve had so many it’s hard to count but pretty much started off-road about the time Joe Breezer and friends started downhilling Mt Tam. Liking the new ebike revolution as my aging frame loves the boost!
