EGT and trans temp

Curious what people are seeing in the way of EGT and trans temp when towing 8000# with a 7.3 and if there are any passes that should be avoided. We are traveling from VT touring WA and OR

Thanks

I try to keep my EGTs under 1150 degrees, with short runs up to 1200 degrees.

Not sure if there would be a difference in that mine's in an Excursion (with the intercooler).

When i was towing with my stock 7.3 w/3.55 and straight pipe my EOT would hit 230 and TFT would peak at 235. No EGT on that van.
My TT was between 7500-8500 any gien day and the van had about 800-1000 inside.

I am also interested in this. I have a 7.3 sportsmobile. I drive it from MA to Yellowstone every year. On big passes such as the teton pass the EGT's will hit 1250 for a short period and the TFT will get up to 220. Planning on towing a 19ft camper behind it this summer. If anyone has suggestions for lowing temps that would be great.

I've noticed on 2 of the 4 vans that I installed a trans cooler not in front of the radiator, the temps for EOT and TFT were noticeably lower.
I highly suspect removing the TFT heat from the front of the van kept everything else cooler.
My current rig I mounted a 10x18 trans cooler under the van, passenger side between the frame and body. It shaves about 15-20 degree off the trans.
My other 7.3, I had mounted a huge trans cooler under the van just before the spare tire. Sounds crazy? But the TFT never got above 170 even in Vegas or the Rockies.
I tend to think outside the box lol...

Bbasso-I think that’s a bit high on both, I’d def look at adding some sort of EGT gauge and a bigger trans cooler on there esp since you’re towing.

High?
Which post are you referring to?
I used to tow, with my first two vans, third and current don't tow.
My first van, 7.3 was bone stock with 750,000 miles when I bought it, I had confidence to start towing with it and never let me down til its presumed death. It was misdiagnosed 4 times as cam walk, but it was later found out by the owner after a significant amount of time and money that it was the IDM. It had been taking on water.
My current rig runs cool, trans, never past 190, EOT never past 220, ECT 215
Typical running temps in balmy hot FL. Is EOT 210, ECT 203 TFT 163, EGT depending on which tune. (Mods are WW2, AIH delete, 4inch turbo back full exhaust) Stock upto 800, 60hp upto 1000, 80hp upto 1300. BUT I don't use that tune since I've replaced the motor.
But geeze it was fast! Tire shredding, donuts on command and serious drift capabilities lol
