CarringB beat me to a reply---good thing since: 1.) He was my primary reason for thinking about them & 2.) Personal experience means so much more than my own guessing about their in-use action.

That was a good question though TwoE---from my POV I'd not typically encounter any jolts that'd send the axle so far upwards quickly. In fact I can't remember a time I've ever bottomed out any vehicle. Add in the removed OEM bump stops showed absolutely no signs of ever touching anything--same for the top of the axle tube.

Since the Sumo's are directly over top of the axle tube its less likely they'd slip off due improper contact during severe bounces. Progressive loading would naturally have them contacting the axle which should all but eliminate any misalignment issues.
