Re: Motorcycle Carriers
Sheepshagger - thanks for the response!
I have been thinking about this a TON the last few days and I think I am going to come at it with two different options:
1.) The double carrier out back, as stated originally. I figure in this configuration I'll stick my WR 250R, 500 EXC, etc. back there and keep the load limit well within it's parameters, not even taking into consideration the extra mods that I have done to make the rear rack have the triple contact points.
2.) Build up another single rack for the back with capabilities of hauling my GS F800, 990 ADV, 950 SE, etc, and then another single for the front rack to hold the Zuma. After Daveb shot me pictures of my roof rack from his visit to SMB West last week it looks like I should have enough room to stick a few BMX bikes up there for the kids, as well as the tag along for my daughter.
The airbags are already in the mix on the truck, so hopefully this will help out quite a bit like you stated, and in the end hopefully this will be a "safe" combination of options for the rig.
Thanks again!

Ok it really took about a week with planning and powder coating.

Re: Motorcycle Carriers
For those of you that have a bike mounted up front .... I see a lot of comments regarding air flow to the radiator but what about night driving and headlamps? How bad is the bike blocking the headlamps. It also seems the glare of the lights shinning on the bike would get annoying.
Great thread. After reading I believe I'll just build a custom rear bumper with a detachable motorcycle rack. The costs of an aftermarket bumper and rack is crazy. I'll have more money in bumpers than i do in the van.

Re: Motorcycle Carriers
Airflow is not an issue for me.
As for lights - larger bikes (650 or bigger) can cast some shadows, but it's not bad. I put a pair of driving lights on the rack to fill in the shadows. Haven't noticed any glare from the tires. They sit low enough I guess.

Ultimate MX Hauler
Loaded this up today after CL find where it was assembled backwards and would not pin at the top.
Attachment 1
Might get a regular hitch extension to raise it up a bit.

Ok just adjust the top of the jack and bring it up some and it should be ok.

I'd keep an eye on that offset receiver adapter. A YouTuber I follow running the same moto carrier had a similar part fail while on a trail and the bike ended up on the ground. There will be a lot of leverage on those welds. Maybe have a welder add some reinforcing side plates to spread the loads better.
