New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

Well, I biting the bullet and going for the AT suspension upgrade to my trailer.

http://www.adventuretrailers.com/suspension.html

Certainly has to ride better than the too hard springs it came with. I will report back after I use it a little.

How much Mike? 2 grand? Keep me posted, I sure wish I had it but it's lower on my list. Maybe after the Deavers.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

Somehow I thought you would be interested Dave.

$1800.

Hopefully it will also track better than it did.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

No.

You still have the issue of too much spring when empty or not enough when full. The airsprings can be adjusted to suit the current load. Simply adjust the air pressure until the trailer ride height is set to the nominal height.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

The suspension upgrade is complete. We are off to Yosemite for a week with it to see how it handles. Hopefully, it tracks better and handles the rough better than it did.

Dave. I have the old springs if you want a spare or two.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

Thanks Mike but I actually bought a spare set. Can't wait to hear how it works out for you...I'll be thinking heavy on the upgrade.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

Initially, the suspension is soft. I can push down on the trailer lid and see the trailer move. It takes road bumps and potholes easily. On some roads at low speeds it can wallow some. The trailer never seems harsh. It never bounces like it used to do all the time.

I think it is the right move.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

Ah...so you think I would be able to put bottled beer in a ice chest and I not end up with a cooler of foaming ice that's full of broken glass? I also hate having to put mantels on the lantern all the time.

Glad it's working out for you Mike. How much air did you put in and can you add more if needed.

My only concern is how often you have to air up the bags.

Re: New suspension for the RockCrawler trailer.

Dave,

I didn't measure the air pressure. Just pump some in and bleed it off until the ride height is at the middle of the travel. Add more load, add some more air. Burn all the firewood, bleed off some air. Not real precise, but it seems to work.
