Ski Rack mount and location
Just got a Sportsmobile! Now I need a place to put my skis. It has aluminess front, rear, and top rack and a Baja box. Maybe a jeep style mount on the spare tire? Pictures and/or suggestions greatly appreciated.

You can get some ideas in this thread. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5867
Personally, I think if you are going to be on the road for a long time then I would go with a roof box so your skis are protected from the elements. Otherwise, I like mounting them horizontally across the back on top of the aluminess rack. See Dpkway's post in the above thread.

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
Second on the cargo box. If you've ever strapped skis down on a vehicle you know how dirty they get. The dirt and rocks put down on roads kicks up and can get into your wax/base. I'm working on getting a cargo box for my roof rack now for the same purpose. You can also carry extra gear up there with a box...

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
I used a standard Yakima rack on the bars mounted to the penthouse top but have switched to a cargo box for this ski season. It will keep them away from the elements plus I can fit a bunch of other stuff up there with them & make better use of the space on the roof.

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
I have a draft master in the back which is for bikes. I modded it to fit a 4 place Thule ski rack and still hold 2 bikes. I'll post up a pic I think I have lying around.

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
I have since put up 3 rows of yak bars and 2 ladders. My rear rack hasn't seen much use since.

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
Roof sounds like a good solution but I also have solar panels up there and obviosuly don't want to scratch them. I don't have any good pics yet since I just got the rig but I'll see if they'll fit up there.

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
We put ours under the bed - RB50 design. Modern skis are so short its no problem. If we need room while camping we just throw them outside. Snowboards would be a problem but then snowboards are a problem anyhow

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
We opted for a Sportube lashed to the cross arms on top. Our carrier was full and the Sportube is portable.

Re: Ski Rack mount and location
I put a front bumper box on with little idea why. You made me think, and I find it takes up to 170cm skis just fine.
