Re: Teardrop
I agree with both camps here. The size and weight of the trailer should be fine without brakes. But, as Herb sez, can't have too much stopping power. Besides, I've been in a couple of situations where I've looked in my side view mirror and seen my trailer going sideways. Pretty nice to tap the trailer brakes and have everything straighten itself out. If you can afford 'em, get 'em.

Re: Teardrop
Thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to Upland to look at the Krawler friday. They are more expensive than the Little Guy Rough Rider. Is the reason mainly aluminum vs. fiberglass?

I second this:

Functionality wise you can pack most anything on the flat top. I don't know about AC, you definitely can't do a rooftop.

Re: Teardrop
I like the idea of a larger teardrop better than a little tent trailer because:
- Easier to see it in the mirrors
- A longer trailer is much easier to backup
- The outside kitchen area is a huge bonus
- More comfortable 2nd sleeping area, especially in bad weather
- Teardrops are cute, tent trailers are not

Re: Teardrop
Yeh Ford I'm into the idea. No set up to it really. I've had larger RV's. This allows private sleeping quarters and Off Road capability. My SMB has a full stand up shower. RD CJ: I looked at AT trailers and they seem to be a good trailer but I see no Off Road capability. Edited: That would be American Trailers and now I understand that you were probably talking about Adventure Trailers and yes I am thinking about them.

Re: Teardrop
I would add Adventure Trailer to your list of trailers to consider ( http://www.adventuretrailers.com/teardrop.html).
I don't have a teardrop, but I do have a Chaser. Awesome go anywhere trailer.

Re: Teardrop
The AT air suspension is quite nice, once I got the leaks fixed. Tracks well, rides better than my van and is easily adjusted for varying loads.

Re: Teardrop
Well, my wife and I are currently leaning towards a teardrop of our own. We've gone back and forth between a camp trailer with RTT, and a teardrop, but the ready-to-go kitchen area together with the excellent weather protection of a teardrop, is making us favor a teardrop. The ability to add heat/AC to a teardrop is appealing as well.
Have already spent quite a bit of time talking with Gabe at SoCal Teardrops, and both my wife and I have visited his shop. Have also talked with Dave (AdventureDuo) to get his firsthand opinions on his SoCal Teardrop. We've also checked out and talked to a number of other trailer manufacturers, and I'll be checking out even more on the 19th at ExPo.
The bad thing is, the price gets high in a hurry with all the options that are available. Kind of like an SMB, but on a smaller scale.

Re: Teardrop
I stay in my Aunt's teardrop (Tab trailer) everytime I visit my Dad in Maine since I'm horribly allergic to cats. It is so easy to tow and is extremely comfortable inside. I would definitely consider one if we ever go the travel trailer route.
