Tow Vehicle & Bike Rack

I have a Hollywood Racks Sport SE 2 bike rack of my SMB. I want to use it behind a tow car . But the manufacturing rep told me on the phone that I should not use a bike rack on the tow vehicle, it's their biggest warranty problem. He said that the towing movement shreds bike racks on the tow vehicle. I said I've seen lots of examples of bike racks on tow vehicles, he said that's a problem! What do you think?

Re: Tow Vehicle & Bike Rack

Putting it on the towed car should not be a problem at all. I think what they mean is don't use the bike rack to tow a car. It has a receiver to make it expandable for more bikes, and their wording makes me think people have been using the expansion receiver to tow trailer. Definitely not built for that. If you want to keep the bike rack on the van and tow at the same time, there's various double receiver extensions on etrailer for that exact purpose.

Re: Tow Vehicle & Bike Rack

I agree, the hitch on the towed vehicle should be fine. I put all kinds of stuff in and on the Jeep while it was flat towed and never had any problems. Never actually did the bike rack but I wouldn't hesitate to- just double check it at stops until you're sure.
and then
everything changed
