Re: Trunk / Bike Rack

The only thing about hauling bicycles or motorcycles in the back is they collect all the dirt/road grime.
I have wasted out a bicycle before hauling it off the receiver hitch.
Other than than a splendid gear carrier!

Re: Trunk / Bike Rack

ok had one fix that came to me right before I fell a sleep last night. I moved the box all the way back on the rails so I could still use my trasheroo. Glade I had the room to do that.

I did use the crush nuts on the rack but I'm not sure about them. I also used a ratchet strap on each side to hold the lid better

Trunk / Bike Rack

Ok If you look in the bottom left corner you will see the hitch mount that came with the box. Does anyone need it for a project?

Re: Trunk / Bike Rack

+1 on the road grime. Just back from a 6000 mile trip and it's HORRIBLE! I really like clean bikes though. Also, I wanted to recommend to anyone who goes this route that a backup camera is really a good idea with this much stuff sticking out back there. I have mine set up as a monitor, where it's always live, reverse or not, so I can watch the bikes while on the road, or backing up of course.

Re: Trunk / Bike Rack

Ok just over 1000 miles and most of it not on main roads but dirt or back roads and the set up works great. We went through the storms just after vegas and no water in the box. The winds and rain had to be the worst I have seen or driven in but the van felt solid and secure.

Cool...
Can you open the rear van doors w/o the extension?
Can you open the lid of the box (w/ bike on it) w/o the extension?
I find I don't need to open the van doors much but I open the box w/ bikes attached a lot...

Re: Road grime / back up camera.
Just got back for another long trip, I've used this rack for a while now and I haven't found road grime to be an issue, I do cover them in bad weather however. Otherwise not sure any other set-up would be cleaner for the bikes (other than inside the van), certainly not on a front rack and ditto on top rack, bug goop is a total mess, I'll take a little dust vs. bugs any day. I'm even thinking of taking the roof racks off of my other cars and getting receiver hitch racks because the bikes stay way cleaner.
Also I have a backup camera on mine, good call for sure, but it is still difficult to see behind the bikes unfortunately.

Ride-on!

Re: Trunk / Bike Rack

Lol Not really sure on that but it matches the seat covers. The PO thought it gave the van a more redneck look and people might not mess with it knowing Rednecks and firearms..

Can you open the rear van doors w/o the extension? Yes I moved the box to end of the rails and once pulled out you can get around the door and into the van.

Can you open the lid of the box (w/ bike on it) w/o the extension? yes but
I have my box opening away from the van so the bikes do not hit the Tire when open
