Re: the Coleman A/C idea..
Here's something to think about ......something the RV sales guys never tell you!
The standard roof top a/c unit needs the generator running to power it, or you have to be plugged in to 30 amp or better outlet at an RV park.
Many small state and local campground have 20 amp (regular household) outlets only.... So you cannot use the roof a/c without using the generator (noisy and expensive and smelly).
Here is the big thing though....when you stop at a friends to visit and camp in their driveway you CANNOT use your a/c on a hot day.......again without using your genny. But with the Coleman window a/c or with a portable unit, you can run them off of just an extension cords from your friend"s garage. And that also makes it easier for you to use your van for a guest room at your home when you have family visit in hot weather.
I point this out to the poster who said he lives in the hot SW. We do too, and when we go to Phoenix to visit our family, we have to limit our trips to cool weather only due to this problem....We have a camper van with roof a/c only.
The conclusion is.....the simple window a/c unit is better than roof top. If you need to, any small generator will easily run the portable or window a/c unit too. So with the factory installed a/c, you need the genny running or need 30amp power. With the simple portable unit, you have more flexibility in use....regular house current, 30 amp at RV park, or genny running
These small portable a/c units also are much cheaper to buy, cost wise.
So why don't the RV manufacturers get their stuff together and install the Coleman type instead of the roof a/c?
Simply put..... Get this guy's van and use a portable or window a/c!
