Curious

I’m curious why you are replacing it? I’m in the market to purchase a pop top for the Ford we just bought.

Thanks

I can help answer this one.....

For similar $$, the CCV top is better in many ways...here are a few big ones

Power top is std, not an upgrade
SMB bed is 39" wide CCV bed is 50" wide
You can sit upright easily (and more) in a CCV top..
CCV offers insulated canvas as an option....
SMB build quality and customer service is nothing to write home about

I'm sure I forgot a few others....the difference is compelling enough were lots of folks have replaced the SMB top with a CCV top.

BoyWonder - you are correct on all fronts except the final one. Our customer service experience with SMB was not even comparable with what we have experienced with CCV to date. SMB was overly friendly, accommodated all of our needs, always answered the phone when we called, even drove us to and from the airport. As soon as CCV received my deposit and my van, I have not had a call or email returned.

I actually wanted to get some feedback from all of you experienced people because I just received a call from Aaron at CCV saying that my van isn't done (hasn't even been started yet, though start date was 9/2) because they are having an issue with their supplier. Mind you, we have flights out to pick it up on Friday which was the date it was due. Of course, I verified the due date several times before booking the flights. I've since been reading a bunch of scary stuff online about lack of customer service and shoddy rushed jobs. My decision now is - do I leave it there and just hope it will get done *well* soon enough? or do I pick it up and leave well enough (not really) alone?

I hope Ray (1Der) can jump in here. He has a lot of experience with CCV and can probably allay your fears. If he doesn’t jump in, try PM’g him.

I’m on the CCV schedule next week and have had nothing but great communication with them. My interactions with SMB were less than stellar. Weird, huh? I guess it depends on who you interact with in either place (which should not be a thing, right?)

Btw, I feel your pain about the logistics. I have about 9,000 flight, hotel, and campground reservations riding on my pickup date. It’s a little crazy-making. I wish you the best. I think we’re making a good decision.

Lowered price!!!

We've lowered the price of the pop top, hoping to sell it before we leave Colorado in a couple of weeks. We will sell if for $5000 or any other reasonable offer. Thanks!

Exclamation Lowered price!!!

I just wanted to make sure that everyone saw that we have lowered the price to $5000 and are willing to hear offers if you have one! Here are some photos of the top off the van. Solar panels and racks are not included but we are leaving the rails on to better preserve the top.

I would post this on Expedition Portal in the vans section as well as Sprinter Source. There are probably others too in this #vanlife environment.

Post on Instagram too if you have an account. #vanlife should get you 2-3 million views.

Let me know when you are in the $2500.00 to $3k range.I am in SoCal and can drive down and pick it up! That is my personal value of it being a SMB product and potential need to replace different components down the line then having the need to potentially deal with SMB parts directly. I know everyone has their own opinion of both CCV and SMB. CCV may need better business management but in talking to them I never felt bullied or that they came off as cocky or arrogant which is the opposite of the other. I know many times it can be the customer flooding them with excessive phone calls or attitude but in general it is a touchy subject here. It is too bad we cannot all be treated like many of the 4x4 conversion companies associated with this forum such as RIP, UJoint, Agile, Advanced and others. Any topic associated with these guys has always ended well. It is a shame that this is not so true about the interior conversion crews! Any way this is why I prefer to do things on my own.
So again please let me know when your price drops to the suggested level in my offer. No shipping no pay pal no check hard cold Benjamins!
