I saw that van for sale when i was looking for mine. I think you made the right decision. Driving that thing off road has got to suck.
You don't need much to make the van winter capable unless you want all the bells and whistles. Any van with basic home insulation and a heat source will be fine.
Tops for vans in my area go for $1,400 delivered to colorado. A local shop here sells a finished package for $3,200.
I got my top from a Junk Yard. The installer is cleaning it up, repainting it and installing for me.
