Re: looking for pop out windows

You'd think it would be possible to design some hardware that uses the non pop out glass.

There's also a liability aspect: Ford stopped with the rear windows because they allowed exhaust gas to get into the vehicle.

Re: looking for pop out windows

Here's a copy of email I just sent, sharing so there is no confusion:

Let me be clear (chuckle) on the windows. I am interested in buying a set for all 4 windows, hardware and all. Ours are fine, but I'd like to have a replacement set just in case. To put a finer point on it, I'd waaaay rather buy gray vs. green. Year model considerations? Mine is a '95. I really think there is a market on the forum (oh god) for 'em. Liability for exhaust gas is a consideration for a new maker, but junkyard finds would be sellable, I'm pretty sure.

Best,
Marc

Agreed. I wouldn't think about it when re-selling an existing part.

Bringing a new design to market may however re-open that consideration.

And yes, I'd also jump at the opportunity to pick up a set of gray ones. Not sure I care enough to change to green. I do have the barn door one, but another in the rear that could be opened without getting out of bed would be nice.

Re: looking for pop out windows

I've been hoping to find a set of rear pop-outs for my 98 Ford, too. Maybe a junkyard find one of these days.

Regarding the exhaust issue, I've always wondered about whether that is really a problem, as on my 98 5.4l Ford the exhaust pipe is on the passenger side rear, near the rear sliding window. SMB had no issue putting a window directly above the exhuast pipe, it seems. I usually open the driver's side slider when driving in order to get airflow.

Re: looking for pop out windows

My 7.3 pipe is in the same setup as yours sounds like... but with the rear popouts open, you do get a bit of exhaust. That is how I realize I've left 'em open sometimes. The swirling updraft behind the van as you move forward at speed puts a bit, not all, of the fumes in the windows. Yup, it is a reality

Ima name my next band "The Swirling Updrafts"

Re: looking for pop out windows

with Marc

I had GM vans since 1977 before I got my Ford on 2010 and they al happen to have or I installed hingeout windows. If you drove with them open you could smell the fumes. A few of the vans had stock exhaust like a Ford out the passenger side and the others had various forms of duals. Everyone of them fumed the van with the windows open. The older vans with no Catalitic converters were much more smelly.

BTW I would go to see a band called "The Swirling Updrafts"
