Yes, pre drill the corners. I've used the grinder and a sawsall, I prefer the grinder. Then spot weld the cross members to the roof. Be sure you remove as much of the gooey stuff between the cross member and the roof. It's highly flammable. Remember when using the grinder the sparks are hot and will burn cabinets and seats. I learned that the hard way.
Also the old saying "measure twice cut once" is a good rule of thumb.

I love me some grinding.. But for this I recommend a jigsaw with a new metal blade and a friend with a shopvac. Much cleaner and easier.

My jigsaw with a fresh bimetal blade did a really nice job cutting through the floor. Slow and steady!
