I can't remember the Forum member that "woke" me on solar...BUT they deserve massive credit for something (you would think) is so obvious, BUT rarely thought of....roof mounting means you'll want to be in direct sunlight, in the van, that now becomes a toaster oven in the sun...we park in the shade when possible so portable units would be the best choice. Didn't even think about it till that member stated that....and then sd duh...Especially with the improvements, to flexible panels, I am looking into a three panel/folding choice (300watt)for
+/-$300...I'd think about that first...

Plus, you can move panels with the suns angle to maximize charge

I thought there was a member who's son is in GA and can do solar installation. I may be wrong and haven't found the info yet.

Member Twoxentrix often posts about solar suitcases/portable panels.

There is a lot of info in the Electrical and Electronic forum. You could run a couple searches.

Some threads on solar...

Ok, I believe member dig255 has a son in Atlanta with a shop. Not sure about solar installation. You might PM him to ask.

Be interested in solar power brand you decided on ? I am thinking one roof 200 watt - and a portable/flexible 200 watt - plus controller, etc.

Hey Double...bought 3 Grape Solar 160W panels, on sale from Home Depot..installed one on top with aluminum L connectors drilled/bolted to Thule cross bars...with plans for all three at some time...(again) until I saw the "portable/park in the shade" thread....looking at these "DOKIO 300 Watts 12 Volts Portable Foldable Solar Panel...16.5 lbs, Foldable Dimension:21*41*1inch (54*104*2.4cm)" $335

The portable comes with inverter, but I don't have any ratings/reviews (yet) on that offer yet

To all,
I have been looking for an installer for at least 5 years in Colorado! If any of you know of one, pleas let me know? I live a bit south of Colorado Springs but in the mountains. But I can get wherever if necessary.
Thanks,
ConnieKat

Update on my solar install search - the installer near Atlanta area seems to be booked solid doing bed liner install for at least 6 weeks. He also stated he would need the van for at least a week to do an install. No expert here - but a week sounds a little stretched out to me ? Anyone know if that length of install time is reasonable ? I was thinking a 200watt panel on the roof - with wires/controller mounted inside and to battery power source - and also a Y-connector for another 200 watt fold up/portable panel to moved around based on sun angle. Tied into a Renogy 200 amp house battery which would need to be mounted. Thoughts ? Thanks --
