Rick, you were never one to be afraid to jump right into huge projects were you? How long do you expect this to take?

For sale: RB-50 SMB Interior

Oh hell....let’s derail this thing a bit more, especially since I haven’t started a separate build thread to transition over to yet.
A bit more progress today, in hopes that the rest of it will be out tomorrow. Things are holding together fairly well, considering the MDF that SMB used and the use we’ve put it through over the years.
I get that the idea of ripping out a perfectly functional interior on a SMB is a bit unconventional for most, but we’ve had this rig for almost 13 years and put over 100K miles on it. Other than routine maintenance and a few other parts to keep this 7.3 going, it’s been mechanically sound and never left us stranded. That, along with the fact that this rig has seen investments over the years including a new CCV pop top and essentially an all new suspension with a FF rear end and a recent re-gear done, the last piece to the puzzle is the interior and dated systems, it will truly be a “Frankenmobile” or better yet “Frankelmobile”....🤨
I just couldn’t walk away from everything I’ve put into it, and as well as I know this van to start over with something new to me. It is true there will be little to nothing left of the original SMB build.
Stay tuned, I’ll be starting a new build thread soon and will link it here as soon as this interior is sold, hopefully this week. Thanks all for indulging and following along, can’t wait to start putting this thing back together!

Jeff-
I often question whether or not I have made the right decision when taking on something like this, but by then it’s too late to turn back.
All I gotta say is, it better be done before I have to leave for Baja.....

Best of luck, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. If you don't finish, I'd be happy to bring along one of my many tents or anything else you might need.

That’s mighty generous of you Jeff, hopefully it won’t come to that.
Some more progress....the interior is pretty much entirely out except for the ply floor, that’ll be next weeks project along with cleaning things up a bit more and starting in on the new build thread. I removed the entire propane system, all of the electrical except for the CCV top stuff which will get integrated into a new panel. This big pig is outta there!.....

I am pretty sure my cabinets have found a new home, I’m meeting a couple coming from Grand Junction tomorrow, they’re super stoked. They purchased their SMB after it had been completely gutted by the previous owners due to a mouse infestation, happy that this will help get them back up and running!

Wow, that's impressive. Sounds like you will make some people very happy with a slightly used interior. Looking forward to the build............

WTF!!!
Our fine forum looks to have been infiltrated by unscrupulous solicitors! Admins-any way to block this member from hijacking other threads?

Late arrival to this post, but I totally get the need to redo a Sportsmobile interior. I'm glad I'm not the only one that is less then impressed with the cabinet quality. I, however, am taking a less bold approach and just replacing a panel or module at a time. I am so over these paper panels and shrunken trim.
