Sportsmobile E350 EB V-10 Quigley Low Miles

My 98 SMB 2WD has more or less the same stripe, but I have a PH. When I bought it, it also had the same fiberglass running boards and hubcaps. I removed the running boards and added OEM alloy wheels. It looks way better IMO. I think with the cruiser top you are competing with the likes of Roadtrek and the like, as it doesn't have that uniqueness of a SMB PH. I agree that you would be well served by making it look a bit more like a 4x4, as thats really your "unique selling point" in marketing speak.

My stripes are also painted on, and I still have mine for that reason. It's probably not cost effective to paint the entire van, but I bet it wouldn't cost too much to just repaint the top to get rid of that stripe, and it would make the van look better.

Assuming you have the F-series bolt pattern on your hubs, you should be able to find some nicer wheels pretty easy on CL or even through a junkyard.

The running boards were a PITA to remove, and they left some holes, but not too bad. It really changes the look of the van when they are removed. I think that alone will make a big difference. I added OEM black Ford running boards at my wife's "request," but hoop steps would be better on your rig IMO.

New rims, top repaint, remove running boards, you are probably talking $2k or less. I think you'd get that back easily.

He found me here, and if the sale goes as planned, I will make a donation to the forum, as it is without a doubt, a valuable resource.
Now- Where do I take my new rig for a quick offroad jaunt this weekend?

Can't knock the truck, but do you have to account for the angle of the floor after climbing in when leveling your tent?

Congrats on the upcoming sale!

This forum has done two things to me which are good or bad depending on how you look at it:

1. Re-kindled my desire to remote camp out of a vehicle and,

2. Giving me the 4WD bug...again.

How can I plan/build an SMB AND get another Toyota 4x4 after seeing all of these cool Tacomas posted here and on Expo Portal?

Hollister is a nice, safe, close bet where you can test it as hard as you want and there's always someone around to help you recover from your learning events.

Nice Taco.

You don't need a Taco if you have an SMB.

Re: Sportsmobile E350 EB V-10 Quigley Low Miles

We ended up going to Hollister for one night and a day of checking out the trails in the upper ranch.
I had been to the dirtbike side many times, but never to the 4x4 area. Fun and pretty impressive. California SVRA's are money well spent in my opinion. The Tepui rooftop tent set up quickly in the dark, (it was my first time.) and was comfy and secure. Reminded us of why we liked our Penthouse top in our first SMB. It's more like camping. The downside of being one with nature is of course having to listen to drunk camp neighbors bickering until all hours.
We are about to take the Taco on a weeklong trip to Moab and points East, so we will miss the weatherproof nature of the Voyager top on Thunderball, as well as the furnace. New owner flies in after we get back in a week to take possession.
