RECOVERED! 9/30/2022 in PDX

My van was recovered, in one piece, with the help the the Facebook group PDX Stolen Cars.

If you are ever in the same situation:

Immediately report to the police and notify your insurance.

There are several facebook groups with members that actively help look for stolen vehicles. The following information was provided by another group, PNW Stolen Cars.

When you post, include a photo, VIN, License plate. Members use that info to verify that a spotted vehicle has been stolen.

Here’s the New Victim Welcome Packet
1) Scammers – Any stolen-vehicle post is likely to attract people wanting to defraud you. You may get messages from individuals who say they know where your car is and will reveal that info for a price. You’ll probably also hear from people who claim that they or some service can hack into your vehicle’s electronics and track it. Not possible. Never pay some random person or “hacker group” for information about your car. Report these messages to Facebook, and let someone on the PNW Stolen Cars staff know so that they can remove the account, if the person is a member.

More info:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/pnws...6580515424445/

2) Where to search – If you want to hunt for your vehicle, these links take you to lists of places in Oregon and Washington where stolen cars have been recovered:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/pnwstolencars/files
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1515840958795276/files

3) Vehicle possibly towed – Never hurts to check and see whether your car wasn’t stolen, after all.
Nationwide: https://search.autoreturn.com
In Oregon:
Parking Patrol Tows – 503-823-0044
Abandoned Vehicle – 503-823-7309
Vehicle towed from private property (such as a parking lot) – 503-823-0044
Tag Warrants – Multiple unpaid parking tickets – 503-988-3235
Reasons not listed above – 503-823-0044
More info from Portland police:
https://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/article/143824

4) Helping others – If you’re out searching for your own vehicle, you can do a good turn for other victims by taking pictures or videos of possibly stolen cars and posting them here. Be careful, though, and avoid drawing attention to yourself, as people have had guns pulled on them when taking photos.

5) Additional groups – Below is a list of other groups to consider. The more places your post appears, the better your chances of recovering your car.
