Wanted CB Radio

Im looking for a used CB Radio I am open to almost anything. I like the Rangers and the Presidents but would settle for a good Cobra 148. Just wanted to check with you guys and gals before I go buy one new or somewhere else.
Thanks
Ron

Re: Wanted CB Radio

I have one I took out of an old van I bought that I have never got around to installing. I'll look at it in the morning and tell you exactly what it is.

Re: Wanted CB Radio

Ron, it's a Colt 355. It's pretty compact, maybe 7 x 4 x 1.5. I took it out of a van I bought from a little old lady who used to listen to and chat with truckers on long stretches of highway without decent radio reception. She must have been inured to bad language. It has the power cord, antenna cord, mike, through-glass magnetic antenna bracket and a whip antenna. It's yours if you want it for the price of shipping. I don't think I'm going to get around to installing it and it might as well be used.

Boat load of power on a CB???
Isn't that 14 "legal" watts maximum SSB?

Re: Wanted CB Radio

This is the only place to buy a new CB. I used to work for him in the early 90's.

Re: Wanted CB Radio

For a Boat Load of power just go to a good CB shop and ask for a "Tweek N Peak" . If that doesn't do it you will need a Linear Amplifier. Those are a little harder to find. Usually cash only out of the back of a van near a truck stop. A great CB shop but not close to you is Canyon Radio in Canyonville OR. He might ship you what you need. I don't think he does Linears though.

Re: Wanted CB Radio

Or try RollingRadios @ 804.640.1851. Give William a call and he can discuss with you what your needs are and get you all set up. I prefer the Stryker 490/7 for AM (about 110w...though no SSB). Should you scoop up something like that up he'll make sure that things screams loud and most importantly CLEAN. If you want to take it to the "next level" and start feeding amps into the system, he can do that VERY well too. Or... you can fumble with a FCC compliant 4w radio and get curb stomped by just about anybody. Your call.

Re: Wanted CB Radio

Not judging anyone, but so you go in with open eyes, please know all the tweaks and peaks that provide higher power are illegal.

For reliable, distance capable communication, I have a HAM radio in my Bronco, and got my Technician class license a few years back. Biggest drawback is not that many people run HAM radios.
