WTB; Ford E250 or E350 w/penthouse top

Looking to purchase a 2007 to 2010 Ford E-250 or E-350, either an RB or EB, with a penthouse top and 5.4 V8 gasoline engine. I'd consider a 4x4 but it's not a "must". Not looking for a Chevy or Sprinter. I'm located in Southern California but can travel within reason.

Why are you only looking for the 5.4 V8 Gas? Just wondering b/c I've never driven one. Does it have enough power?

Because everyone that I've talked to with the 5.4 is getting 15 - 17 mpg.

I've had a number of people tell me that the V-10 gets bad mileage. But also a couple of people who say they get good mileage. So sometime in the next couple of days I'm going to rent one from Enterprise and check it myself. If the V-10 gets the same mileage as the V-8 then I'd rather have the V-10.

Definitely don't want a diesel.

Not sure if renting one from Enterprise will give you an accurate figure since they only have empty cargo vans. Once you start adding things, that will obviously affect gas mileage.

Theres a 97 in the OC craigslist that is pretty much a blank slate if thats what you're looking for, except it does have a penthouse top with bed and a cabinet with sink, fridge, and microwave (I think). It also has an outdoor shower and its fully insulated. Looks very clean. It doesn't meet your year specs, but it does have a 5.4 in it.

I'm running pretty much what you are looking for with 4x4. I get 13mpg on my best day but rarely that good.

I have 2006 E250 RB Sportsmobile that was converted at the end of 2006 and registered in October 2006. I designed the interior and spec'd out many extras including a penthouse to removable captains chairs removable cabinet, StarCool AC and a 2800 Olan gas generator. Many other features. I am presently in New England and returning home to Florida by October 21, The current mileage on the van is 82700 and I expect it to be about 85000 by the time we get home (about 80% highway miles). It has the 5,4 v8 and it does get 16 to 17 MPG if you keep your speed under 65 Last check was 16.6 at 60 over 1200 highway miles. My overall average city/hwy is 14.5 MPG. I can share more info about the van with you if you are still interested in it. I will be able to meet you anywhere along the I-10 between Florida and California. I also have a 5x10 vnose Toyhauler/Sleeper converted cargo trailer that goes along with it if you want it. Let me know if you are interested.

For what it's worth, my 2008 Ford Quigley 4x4 E350 V10 with a high top conversion package averages 11 mpg regardless of highway or local. It has 33x12.50R20 mud tires on it so that may shave a little bit off my mpg but I doubt if it's much. Good luck!
