1 Deer + 1 SMB @ 60mph =

just a bent license plate...I love my Aluminess bumper! Only thing left to do is wash the bits and pieces out from under the sporty.

That's all that happened?

What about the underwear? Mine would have needed changing.

Glad you came out ok.

Glad you and the van came out fine. Looks like the aluminess did its job.

Where I travel often deer collisions are one of my greatest safety concerns. We had our SMB nearly 3 years before I got the aluminess bumpers. I got them after almost hitting a deer one night on hwy 395.

Um...just thought I would leave that part out.

It happened about 5:30am and still dark and on a two lane road. There was a deer in the opposite lane...a deer in my lane...and a deer on the shoulder so I had no place to go but straight on with it. It happened so fast it was almost a blur.

And Jeffrey, I'm sure it's in a better place now...minus the bits and pieces still stuck underneath the van.

Actually, even if there was only one deer that was probably the best route, or we'd be reading a "flipped the van" story. When you drive a lifted rig swerving is often not the best course of action, and not swerving is something you should mentally prepare for as much as possible.

Glad you're all right.

Re: 1 Deer + 1 SMB @ 60mph =

Thanks Jage,

Actually last year I was driving down the road and saw a pretty good chunk of blown tire from a semi in my lane and I'm thinking to mysef...go over it or around it?...go over it or around it?...and at the last minute I did do a little swerve to go around it and immediately decided I probably shouldn't ever do that again.

Sadly, these encounters are often unavoidable.

'Better place' ? I don't think so. The poor innocent thing is dead.

Actually, my buddy and his van had avoided a sleeping horse on the road in the middle of the night. Apparently it got lost and decided to just sleep standing, right on the road.

Hitting a horse would be a different story since it stands a bit taller and a bit more heavier. Hopefully his warning to CHP about the horse was in time for the next poor guy on that same road.

He said he saw nothing till the last few seconds, he could do nothing but slightly turn to avoid it, making sure not to swerve to violently and bearly missed the horse hind quarters..

This happened near Warner Springs, S2 near Anza Borrego...

After you hit a large animal the term "sickening thud" has a whole new meaning.
