Because it kinda moves and being I tried front wheel drive only, I can't wrap my head around having both diffs failing at once. It's almost like the the spline connection between the transmission and transfer case cut loose. Gonna crawl under today and try to locate the noise location.

No way.....highly unlikely.....

assuming that the speedo sensor is on the transmisson.... when you rev the motor in gear, does the speedo needle do anything? If it does, then transfer case issue?

Seems I saw that but it could have been the tach. Thanks I double check that today and get back to the tread.

Didn't think it could be both diffs, my thought process was just to eliminate the fact that it could be either diff.

Thanks Herb I got ya. I actually kinda did that as soon as it failed. I've had to use front wheel drive only to get me out of a jam before when my rear diff was about to fail. I do plan to try that all again just in case I missed something. It's been kind of miserable weather wise around here lately and the smoke from the railroad fire in Yosemite has it looking like December fog outside. Hate to get out in it.

Yeah me too. It seems like the transfer case shifts OK. It's like I lost the output shaft of the transmission. Of coarse the transmission is the last major part of my van that has yet to cost me a tow so I guess I'm due

Well when I rev up the engine while in drive (or any gear) the speedometer does not move. Transfer case is shifting correctly. Advanced Adaptors told me if the case shifts OK then it's probably good and suspected the transmission.

Another clue I just noticed is the overdrive light is in the off position and is blinking. It will not go into overdrive even though when it failed it was in overdrive. So anybody know what the blinking represents???

Trany fluid looks OK.

Did a quick search, and the causes seem to be all over the map, though almost everyone says it's an indicator there are codes to be pulled. Have you checked to see if you have any codes?

Hey, which transmission does your rig have?

I'm not familiar with how OD is handled on anything other than the E4OD, in which overdrive is achieved by a simple electrically-actuated lockup of the torque converter --- does yours get handled the same way?

If indeed your transmission achieves its OD by electric-lockup of the torque converter......then......based on the fact your OD light is blinking....I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and guess torque converter failure. (As was something I think Boywonder also threw out there as a possibility early in this message-board diagnosis session.)

I'm pretty sure Dave has the 5R110 in an 06 6.0 diesel, which if it is the tranny will make the first failure I've heard of on one of these.
