I would consider going with Quad Van or Quigley. More out of pocket, but a good 4x4 system with a warranty. I know the wait times may be similar though.

One thing for camper builders to consider. It seems Ford uses a smart alternator on the AWD Transit. So when it senses that the coach battery is full it stops sending current. So then if you have an isolator to the coach battery it also stops getting current. We discovered this on our first road trip when we drove for a while and the coach battery bank stayed low and it caused a problem when we wanted to use the inverter at night.

Do you mean house battery? If you have an isolator that is tied to the ignition how would the smart alternator differentiate? What kind of isolator do you have?

I've had my 2016 since Oct of that year - new off the lot. That was before Quigley got overrun with factory orders so I was able to drive to PA and drop it off for a month. Admittedly I have low miles (about 28K) on it but this thing is such a trip! It's a T250 mid-roof long (not extended) wheelbase. With the V6 Ecoboost, it idles up long highway hills I used to have to downshift twice with the Econoline's Triton V8. The comfort in the cab and the ability to walk in the cargo area is incredible, and the Sortimo composite vestibule gives me a nice quiet ride. I love the 2 1/2" lift from the conversion and the larger BFG T/A KO2's. Your'e way above the normal traffic. If it were me in your situation I would feel I've waited long enough. Get the new one with the improved dash and electronics and have it converted at the Quigley factory. Say hi to Tiger!.

If I didn't have a want to do some of the harder off road trails, I would have gone that route instead. Driving the ecoboost V6 at altitude is awesome. It's basically a domestic Sprinter, but without the upkeep of the diesel and a more dense dealer network (plus more local mechanics will touch a Ford vs Mercedes), or the weird fwd drivetrain of the Promaster. Also, for snowy road conditions, I'd take awd over a locked center 4x4 most days (until it gets over 16''-18'' or so).

The video was very cool. Looks like very nice workmanship. I'm impressed.
Question: What did the build out/conversion cost?

Hey any opinions on how the stock AWD system may work on beach sand? Obviously with proper lift, wheels tires, suspension upgrades, etc. I know the build out weight would also contribute to the answer but just an overall opinion. I have a 02 E250 Traverse with a Salem Kroger conversion currently but love the idea of getting into something modern drivability and a high roof.
Thanks
