Bill burke trip - Big Rigs in the Abajos!

No affiliation, other than being a satisfied customer of Bill's adventures.

Elephant Hill should be fun in an SMB! Don't count on fuel at Needles Oupost, but whether you score some fuel there or not (not sure diesel is ever available), the owner is "interesting" to say the least.

Big Rigs in the Abajos!
June 20-24. $950/vehicle. Limit 5 vehicles.
Big Rigs, Vans and Trailers, this trip is for you! 4WD adventure trip with scenic enjoyment and training on the back roads of SE Utah. We'll travel some of the rough roads around the Abajo Mountains stopping at Cliff Dwellings, Towers and view points. As we make our way through the Blue Mountains into Beef Basin and the Needles District of Canyonlands we'll decide if the rigs can make it over Elephant Hill. There is a great road around just in case! Once leaving the Needles area the long and winding road up Lockhart Basin will get us close to the Colorado River, over Hurrah Pass and into the back door of Moab. Although it is about 95 air miles, this trip may require extra fuel, depending on your tank size, but about 30 gallons total usually gets it done!

Requirements: Self sufficient camping, food, fuel, water for the week. Needles Outpost may have fuel. We will be on back country roads the entire time. Some hiking to visit some ruins is optional (worth it) but we will get close enough either way. Bill will teach, spot and guide along the way. Campfire fun, great scenery, navigate and negotiate rough roads working the rigs on a trip long enough to get away from it all!

That trip does sound cool. Sadly, tough to know if/when I could commit. Post if you go for it. I'll see if I can sell it to the "large family"...

No I already know I'm not going. Has a lot of the elements of a trip I did with Bill last year in my Bronco, which was a great time.

That's ok, I didn't want to hang out with you anyway.

I meant if any of the COOL forum members decide to go, they should post...

Re: Bill burke trip - Big Rigs in the Abajos!

FINE! I am about to leave on Dino Hunt 2011 with my five year old son. Two week roadtrip with just the two of us.

Zion N.P.
Dinosaur National Monument
Dinosaur Journey museum in Fruita, CO (including a three hour dino dig in a dino quarry)
Albuquerque Natural History museum
Albuquerque Zoo
Meteor Crater
Grand Canyon Railrod trip (Williams AZ to G.C and back)
a stop at my parents home in AZ and then home

My son is in his mandatory dinosaur phase, and I wanted to maximize as much dino-mania into two weeks as possible.
