Cal-Fires again

We had a set of thunderstorms move through the coast range that ignited several fires and it's making for some bad air throughout California. At times it looks like light snow falling but varies day by day. Mostly it looks like a foggy day with limited visibility in the Modesto area. I'd avoid driving through the central valley right now. There are other fires going on in other areas as well that are contributing to the poor air.

Seems almost every year the wild fires in CA pretty much overwhelm areas they occur---living here in the boring midwest we typically don't have such natural disasters that happen so frequently and last so long season after season.

Hope all who live there are out of harms way and keep a go bag ready to use as needed.

August is usually the height of fire season in the west. It may be awhile before any of us can get quality panoramic pictures...

Forget panoramic pictures. I just want to be able to leave my house someday!
I usually leave Fresno every summer for this reason. Its too hot or too polluted or both.

Don't bother coming upto to Tahoe as we are also experiencing lightning strike fires nearby and the air quality is not good. The forecast is for more possible thunder showers early this week.

In Santa Barbara the nearest fire is around 200 miles away (so far) but we're getting smoke from the fires up in the Bay Area. At times this week visibility has been as low as 1.5 miles. We were lucky, the thunderstorms bypassed us out at sea before swinging inland.

Yesterday was the first almost normal day and saw a blue sky! Prior to a couple of days ago we couldn't see the sun while setting much less the coast range mountains. Still not perfect air as almond harvesting is going on kicking up dust. Hopefully the fires calm a bit. They seem to be moving west towards the coast. Not too sure about the air quality over there.
