I will be heading into the CO mountains this weekend for a 2 day ski trip and was wondering what the concensus was for overnighting close to the ski hill. I have heard at Crested Butte you can head down a nearby fire road and that at the smaller resorts you might even get away with staying in the parking lots. We are keeping our destination open based on the snowfall this week.
Anyone have experieince with this?

I know this is a little late, but being from Crested Butte, you can park pretty much anywhere in town on the streets. Just make sure that you read the parking signs as they switch each night. You can walk to the multiple bus stops in town to get up to the base area. We are having a BANNER year for snow....
Thanks Reid! We ended up heading to Vail and found a small park-n-ride in East Vail on a recommendation from a fellow knuckle-dragger that worked out well. I am completely sold on the SMB as a year round accommodation! The Vail spot was perfect and we learned that Copper Mtn allows free camping in their Apline lot that is a shuttle away from the base.
Still planning some trips to Crusty Butt and Jackson Hole though!
