Death Valley Search

A fascinating account of a search in Death Valley, and the disastrous consequences of a series of wrong decisions:

The Hunt for the Death Valley Germans

Re: Death Valley Search

Great read!

Thanks for posting that

I've only been able to drive through Death Valley. Some actual exploring is still on my to-do list.

Re: Death Valley Search

I saw that on Expo yesteday. Spent 3 or 4 hours early this am reading that. The auther has several other stories on his blog along the same lines. The ones I read were very well done.

Re: Death Valley Search

carringb - Tell me you didn't read that whole thing in an hour. Wow, I must be a slow reader.

SCBrian - Yes, I saw it on ExPo as well. Thought there would be interest here, too.

Expedition Portal thread (started in 2009, but thread was revived last week with the link to the first-hand account I provided above).

Cheers,
Brent

Yup, it is very well written - I got sucked in yesterday at the office, and now need to work a little harder to catch up!

Re: Death Valley Search

Fascinating, and deeply tragic story, countered primarily by one man's determination and obsession with unraveling a mystery.

Underestimating the desert, coupled with entering the desert ill-prepared was a bad combination, and especially heartbreaking given the two young children involved.
