Earthquakes

We've had some earthquakes lately but the one that happened a half hour ago really rocked my place in Nor-Cal. The last ones have been very close to Death Valley. Enough that cell service has been affected.

Yeah, we felt it here in Riverside. Just a slow roll that lasted for a while.

I guess it was in the same area, Searles Valley outside Ridgecrest. Anybody in the Death Valley area must have gotten shook up.

I hope all are well, especially after the 7.1 today. It sure got me thinking again about our preparedness (or lack thereof). I’m grateful for the storage locker in my van where I can keep some things that might come in handy if we needed to - or were able to - get out of town. I’m not much of a survivalist, but being surrounded by a ring of volcanoes can make you a little jittery at these times.

My favorite thing on board - besides the essentials - is my MSR Guardian water purifier. At 2.5 liters per minute, it provides water from any source fast.

Something I haven’t done yet, that local authorities here recommend, is put together an evacuation backpack for the house. It’s one of those chores I keep putting off so keep getting tempted to go with this ready-made, albeit more expensive, option. It appears they’re going like hot cakes today:
