Re: "EDC"

No pics to share, but I thought I'd mention Maxpedition gear in case you guys haven't heard of it. Pretty much all of their packs have an EDC/concealed carry compartment, plus the construction is bombproof.

http://www.maxpedition.com/default.asp?

I got tired of going through $40-$50 school backpacks twice a year, so now the kid has a Maxpedition gearslinger that was $110 through Amazon's warehouse deals, and the thing still looks brand new half way through the year.

He's also got a water bottle carrier for Scouts that's a perfect fit for a JetBoil plus fuel, and it either velcros or molles right to the main pack. Thing's been hiked up trails, banged off rocks, thrown in the bottom of a canoe and dragged through mud and rivers and it's held up fine.

We have to run two backpacks, though, one for school and one for Scouts so the gear never mixes. If his Scout knife ended up at school by accident, he'd be expelled. Happened to a fellow scout after a campout. Kid realized he'd forgotten to take his jack knife out of his pack, turned it in to the teacher at school and boom, zero tolerance.

Zero tolerance, or Zero Common Sense (on the school's part)?

Zero common sense is pretty much it.

There is a rifle that is both a 410 shotgun and a 22 (over under), Savage model 42 etc.
You can get snake shot in both calibers.

But other options would be a Ruger 10/22, or a Henry AR-7 survival rifle.

Not sure about a 22 pistol for shooting snakes, I don't like to get that close.

I also have some snake gaiters for the high desert (and Australian outback).
