...and all this time I thought the word "growler" was a condition that I have. Seems like there's always the person that shows up empty handed at a gathering looking to score everyone else's brew. When they get close to my supply I start to "growl" uncontrollably with just a hint of drool seeping from the corner of my mouth...works like a charm...they just pass me by.

I hear ya John K! A while back I strayed from Texas and spent about 10yrs in Oregon. Every road trip back to SA I'd load up 4 or 5 cases of Lone Star and haul it back to Portland...it was quite the novelty there among my Portlander friends.

agree on the Anderson Valley. Here in the land of Zion it is one of the brews I can actually get my hands on w/o sneaking it in. Their IPA is one of my staples...

I guess I got to put in a plug for a couple of old friends (Mark and Steve) who brew at home. Both have some great stuff.

I've avoided this topic since I felt like I could write an essay instead of a reply.

Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam and Red Hook are my favorite relatively "main stream" breweries.

Ballast Point and Stone are both excellent local breweries (I'll be at Ballast Point Thursday evening).

Samuel Smith Taddy Porter is one of my favorite beers of all time (I want one right now). I also love Full Sail IPA.

I should stop now...

I like to assault my kidneys and liver with a force assembled much like the UN. I try and get some Mexican (tequila) ground troops in first backed up by Irish cavalry (guiness), failing to hear back from those forces I will send in the California (wines) reserves to see if we need to lay a foundation for Finnish or Russian (Vodka) berserkers.

Usually at this point, the conflict has grown pretty severe, so I have to send in the pretzel and peanut police, or the burritos banditos.

alliteration aside, I usually drink gin or vodka mixed with whatever's on hand when I'm camping.
