Flames Engulf Camper Van at Mary Jane Base

Thankfully no injuries reported, or pets lost, which was my first thought. Wife showed me someone had jumped to conclusions and commented that this is why you don’t leave the propane heater on or something to that effect. Anyway, article says cause was “mechanical engine failure”....must’ve been a 6.0......Anyone here? Sorry for your loss.....but glad no pets were in there!
Sorry I posted this in campfire.... but somehow seemed appropriate

Typical news story assuming all sorts of things. From the pic it's pretty obvious that it is a Dodge and it's not even a camper van. You can see all of the bench seats in it in the pic. Also, it's not even in a campsite or campground, it's in the middle of a parking lot.

No offense to you REF, I of course have no idea if you even saw the pic. My complaint is with the always assuming media.

Check out how it melted the headlight of the truck next to it! Crazy.

I dunno, I don't see bench seats. I see the window frames of the cars behind the van. Look at how the only things left of the front seats are the frames. I don't think there's anything left of the back seats.

It appears to be a hightop, but that could be a shuttle too.

Look closer, there are three bench seats visible. The rears aren't burnt. It doesn't really matter, though, my point was that any way the media (and I'm not one of those anti media types, generally) can get you to click, they do. Right now, camper vans are all the rage, so it had to be a camper van. Couldn't just be a van. How boring.

I get your point. It's not just news anymore, it has to be entertainment and conjecture...

Flames Engulf Camper Van at Mary Jane Base

I dunno, I get it....but who of us doesn’t get caught up in it all, was really wondering if it was someone here, that way we could commiserate together. It certainly looks like it could have easily been at least a home built camper van and not just another plain Jane van or shuttle-there’s a lift, big tires, 4X4? (Looks like front locking hubs) high top, and what looks maybe like a single rear fold down bench seat.
Here’s more photos of the carnage, presumably taken by some other skiers that day, but in the end, someone’s van burned up with what could’ve been all of their earthly possessions along with it....camper van or not....again, glad there were no casualties, now pass me the weenies and marshmallows

I agree REF, I just get frustrated sometimes with headlines. It sure sucks for the people parked nearby that came back hours later hoping to return to their warm cars and they came back to warm cars with a different meaning.
