That thing is insane!

The driver is also a bit touched for not always wearing eye protection. With the amount of dirt and rock kicked up by the thing I would think a helmet and goggles would be smart things to wear.

Any ideas on what kind of engine he's running? It sure sounds like it's pumping out crazy horsepower.

I'm a fan of subtlety, that is marginally controlled chaos. And he really tears up the trail more than is needed. Kinda like 4 synchronized chainsaws on attack.

I'd rather see him with some lower gears walking up most of those trails. Not as exciting, but more impressive to me.

Eye protection? Everyone should have eye protection just to watch that.

Couldn't agree more. Ever drive trails with all sorts of dips and moguls? That's where many of them come from, uncontrolled wheelspin. Next thing you know, the trail is so torn up that other people start creating bypasses around those spots.

I do appreciate that rig to some extent. I think the builder must have wanted to show off his tube bending skills with the skeleton that he made. Even without a body per se, that rig is no lightweight.

Eye protection? He'd better have ear protection as well! You know I do believe there is a place for that in the US but it needs to in a spot designated for such an event. It's the same as dirt bike riding. When you go to an off road site, there are trails all over the place for that purpose and it doesn't bother me at all. When I see stuff like what this guy is doing on OHV routes I'm not a fan. I use those routes as well and don't want it to be so torn up that I can't use it. I've seen a few buggies like this in the Sierra's but they slow crawl for the most part. If they are ripping up the "public" trails, they need to go somewhere else. IMO that is what this guy is doing and it looks like it's a coarse designed for this his kind of vehicle...go for it, I think its great.

My buggy will do all that... while dragging logs. None of the noise, kidney damage, or wheel spin. Lets observe:

Sorry folks but I think the guy ought to be thrown in jail for tearing up the forest and destroying the roads that are there. This is not fun; it's destructive. To me he is in the same category as taggers -- it may be fun for him but it destroys the beauty for everyone else.

No need for jail, I dont want my tax dollars spent on that, make him repair the trails instead. For what its worth some of the video makes it seem like its some sort of private park. There are tons of these all over the country. I do agree when its a public system thats just not right to do, it gives the activity a bad name. Just like shooters going out to public lands and leaving a mess of used brass, targets and other junk, gives everyone a bad name for the actions of a few.
Now, would I give that buggy some hard core love....you bet. Thats some serious HP stuck in that! If you got the cash go for it, just dont hurt public lands and for goodness sakes put on a helmet and some goggles....geesh.

Re: For your viewing pleasure

Seems like there are some pretty strong opinions on here over this, but it's very popular over here in the Eastern woods. I don't think they would get away with it out west where more people are using the outdoors for more things, but there are miles and miles and miles and miles of old coal mining country around here where they just tear it up and tear it up worse. No one is really using this land for anything any more. I used to dirt-bike in the woods here and you can get so many miles back in the mountains where there this stuff goes completely unchecked. As do meth labs, and moonshine stills, etc.
I agree it's fun to watch, but I do hate to think about the destruction going on. A lot of it is on private land so no one's going to stop them completely. Also, I literally can't believe they don't wear eye or hearing protection. Ever been to a tractor pull? Not much difference really.

Gnarvan, it's a blown 454 in Tim Cameron's rig (the first link). He's kind of the most famous of these guys, and his buggies are artwork. Look up 'hell raiser' on Youtube and you can see some great video of his latest build.

Yea, I wouldn't go near that thing without a full face!

I guarantee most (if not all) of this footage was taken on private property.
