Well it was worth the trip. I had a blast with my daughter and my buddy made it up in my old van. A little backcountry skiing and a good time around the fire. It snowed a ton!

Oh boy you guys are making me jealous. My 2021 Transit is supposed to be built in April and I want to be ready for this come Jan. 2022, my retirement date.
I hope to be chasing snow like you folks. Live in Seattle.

YES! One of my favorite trips of every year. Nothing more lovely than being inside a heated SMB in sub-freezing weather covered in fresh snow. Yosemite and Sequoia are my fav locations. Here are a few pix from Sequoia NP.

That looks amazing. I love the tree spacing. Never been to either.

Can you tell me about having the top popped up in the snow like that?
Is it worth the trouble? Do you sleep like that?

Totally worth it and I sleep up there. There is minor hassle to wipe off the load before I lower it (manual) so it doesn't kill me. Can't think of a better place to sleep in a blizzard.

What is your method for clearing the snow off the roof before lowering?
I’m worried about bending the bars or having it slam down with the weight of the snow.
How much snow have you had on top with the top up?

I use a full length shovel and just work it off. I had a foot up there. The top is supported by legs during times like these so it won’t bend bars or fall down.

VanD The daughter part is wayyyy cool! Wish mine were even remotely interested in what we do, sad lol..and I and happy somebody loves the snow. Since we love through a FULL winter here in Iowa, and full I mean four weeks of fun snow, four weeks of when will this be over, and when the negative hits and stays, its the five weeks of why are we here snow...We camp locally in the snow just for fun/ice fish, but last two weeks we blew off the -22 degree "snow" scene for something much more desirable for us. Glad you all are as the guys wife said "insane" for driving towards it! It gives us great pics!

Yes, I've been in situations where I couldn't get out of snow drifts. It was really scary.
