Gun Photo Discussion from Classified Ad

[Modified 5/4/09]

The following discussion was split from the Classifieds section, the photo in question was cropped and the rest of this discussion didn't seem to serve any purpose under the ad.

Gun Photo Discussion Was: American Racing Wheel FS

Showing a kid illegally (and stupidly) shooting a rifle in a campground is not going to help you find someone to buy the wheel.

Re: American Racing "Baja" Black/Teflon Wheel 16x8 (1)

Wow. Sorry to offend you Jeffrey. Just a 12 year old kid with a BB gun. Also, note that it's not a public campground it's a friends private property. And he's not actually shooting it -- he's only allowed to shoot at a target trap we bring along. He knows and follows all the rules, as do I.

Anyway this was a little unexpected. Just trying to give someone a great deal on a wheel I can't use. That was the best pic I had. Again, sorry to offend you. Sheesh.

Gary

Gary, no offense, just a call on what the photo looked like. The firepit grill was a hint. Sorry, but society has made me wary of children with firearms, (and adults, too).

I'm sure the wheel is good. I have the same ones!

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

Re: Gun Photo Discussion from Classified Ad

I can't help but chime in...

Most of the people that I know who don't like guns have little to any reason for it other than personal opinion. Most don't have a story or experience other than reading about something or hearing through the grapevine. Those that appreciate the purpose of a gun often appreciate it from experience, and not often because they read or heard something.

From a Hunter, a Citizen, and a Soldier, I am always down trodden when reading about or interacting with those that form opinions with no basis other than 3rd hand information.

Re: Gun Photo Discussion from Classified Ad

Guns, guns - I'm afraid this will be like quicksand and soon pull us all down.

But, I will offer my comments.

I'm not anti-gun. I won't have guns in my house. My dad has several, my brother does too.

I remember when I was young and my older brother was playing with my dad's shotgun and pointed it at my little brother - who was very, very frightened. BB said the gun was empty, LB said NO! So I told BB to shoot that 7 up bottle and show LB. Believe it or not, we got the mess cleaned up, patched the hole in the wall before our parents came home - they never knew.

It wasn't the gun. It was the lack of training and the availability of the gun. And there is no requirement for training. Imagine the carnage if anyone of age could get a driver's license - oh wait, we have those drivers too.

Back to the photo. The fire ring looks like a commercial part in a campground. I see the points on both sides. Maybe a simple cropping of the picture would have prevented this.
